Uploading Files

There are currently two methods for uploading files in GenomeSpace:

  • the Java Uploader

In general, we recommend dragging a file from your computer and dropping it on a GenomeSpace folder.

However, if you are uploading files larger than 1 GB, you should use the Java Uploader.

There are some known issues to be aware of:

  • If you are using an older browser (e.g., a Firefox version lower than 18 or a Chrome version lower than 24), it will probably not support the drag-and-drop functionality.

Workaround: You can either try a newer browser or use the Java Uploader.

  • For Chrome users: Chrome loads your files into memory during the upload process, so if you use this feature for very large files (e.g., 1GB+) the memory used by your Chrome process can become very large.

Workaround: For very large files, use the Java Uploader.

  • The Java Uploader does not work with Java 7 on Chrome on Macs. To see what version of Java you have on your Mac, try Java Tester

Workaround: Use Firefox.
